What we do

We're TireSwaps, a mobile tire service out of Calgary. Airdrie is one of the towns we cover, along with Chestermere and Okotoks.

Your winter tires live on one set of rims. Your all-seasons live on another. We unbolt one set, bolt the other on, torque the wheels and set the pressures. That's the whole job.

It works because the tire and rim come off as one piece. Nothing gets stretched over a rim, and nothing needs balancing. Your wheels were balanced when the tires were mounted, and they stay balanced as long as they stay on those rims.

That's why on-rim matters. Every time a tire goes on and off a rim, the bead gets worked over. Do that twice a year for a few seasons and it starts to suffer. Keeping each set on its own rims avoids that, and it's what makes a swap quick.

We come to you in Airdrie

Home or work. A driveway, a garage pad, a condo parking spot if your building allows it. Most of Airdrie is detached homes with driveways, and that's where most of our swaps happen. If you'd rather not take time off, we can meet you in the lot.

You don't have to prep anything fancy. Have both sets out where we can reach them and make sure they're on rims.

One thing worth knowing before you book: we're AMVIC-licensed and we carry insurance. That's true of every tech we send out, not just the person on the phone.

How a visit works

1. Book it. Pick a day and time online, or call and we'll sort it out. Tell us the vehicle and how many cars are at the address.
2. Get the tires ready. Both sets out in stacks. Winters together, all-seasons together.
3. We do the work. All four wheels come off, the other set goes on, everything gets torqued and the pressures get set.
4. You're done. We put the set that came off wherever you want it.

Quick answers before you book.

Do you come to my condo parking lot?

Usually, yes, as long as your building or condo board lets work happen in the lot or the parkade. Check with them first, since some buildings say no. We just need a spot with enough room to get a jack under the car and swing a wrench.

Do I need to be there?

It helps if someone can point us at the tires and open the garage, but you don't have to stand there and watch. Plenty of customers hand over the keys and go back inside, or meet us in the parking lot at work.

What if my tires aren't on rims?

Then we can't do the swap. That's the one hard rule. Loose tires need a shop with a tire machine to mount and balance them onto rims. Once they're on rims, we can swap them every season after that.

When to swap in Airdrie

Winter tires aren't just for snow. They're for cold. The rubber stays soft well below freezing. An all-season hardens up around 7 degrees and starts losing grip on cold pavement, never mind ice.

In Airdrie that usually means the window opens in October. The first real snow in the forecast is when the phone lights up, and it happens every year. Book a week or two ahead if you can. You'll get a better pick of times.

Spring is the other half. Don't pull the winters off the second the snow melts in March. Wait until the daytime highs sit above 7 for good, which here is usually sometime in April. Soft winter rubber on warm dry pavement wears fast.
