What we do

We're TireSwaps, a mobile tire service. We bring the swap to your house or your workplace, and Chestermere is one of the towns on our list along with Calgary, Airdrie and Okotoks.

A swap means changing one set of wheels for another. Your winters are on rims. Your all-seasons are on rims. We take one set off the car and put the other on. Four wheels off, four wheels on, torqued properly, pressures set.

Mounting is a different job. That's when a bare tire gets stretched onto a rim, which needs a tire machine and a balancer. We don't do that, and it isn't the service we offer.

Why should you care? Because on-rim is easier on your tires. Every mount and demount works the bead, and doing it twice a year for several seasons adds up. Rims protect the tire from that, and they make the swap a 45-minute job instead of an afternoon.

Your driveway is the usual spot. Garage pad works. If you're in a condo or townhouse and the board allows work in the lot, that's fine too.

3. We handle it. Wheels come off, the other set goes on, torque and pressures get checked.

Can you work in my condo or townhouse lot?

Usually, if the building or condo board permits it. Worth a quick check first, since some places say no. We need enough room to get a jack under the car and move around the wheel.

Someone needs to show us the tires and open the garage if there is one, but you don't have to stand outside and watch. Plenty of customers go back inside or head to work.

My tires aren't on rims. Can you still help?

Not with the swap. Loose tires need a shop with a tire machine to mount and balance them onto rims. Once they're on rims, we can swap them every season after that.

Winter timing around here

Winter tires are a temperature thing more than a snow thing. Winter compound stays soft when it's cold. All-seasons stiffen up around 7 degrees and start slipping on cold pavement even when it's dry.

In Chestermere that usually means October is the month. The first snow in the forecast is when everyone calls at once, so booking a couple of weeks early is worth the trouble.

And come spring, don't be too eager. Wait until the daytime highs hold above 7, which here is generally April. Running winters on warm pavement chews through the tread you'll want next fall.
