What we do

We're TireSwaps, a mobile tire service, and Okotoks is one of the towns we cover, along with Calgary, Airdrie and Chestermere. You park in your own driveway. We do the swap there.

A seasonal swap means trading one complete set for another. Winters off, all-seasons on, or the other way around in spring.

The key part is that your tires are already mounted on rims. Tire and wheel come off as one unit, the new one goes on, and that's it. Four wheels off, four wheels on, torqued to spec, pressures set.

Driveway, garage pad, or the lot at work. Plenty of Okotoks is detached houses with a decent driveway, and that's the usual setup. Condo and townhouse parking works too if the building allows it. Both sets need to be out and reachable, and both need to be on rims. That's the only real prep.

Can you come to my condo or townhouse parking lot?

Usually, yes, if the building or condo board permits work in the lot. Worth a quick check with them first, since some places say no. We need enough room to get a jack under the car and move around the wheel.

How long will it take?

No. Someone needs to be there to show us the tires and let us in if there's a garage, but after that you can go back to work or back inside. A lot of people just leave the keys with us.

What if my tires are loose, not on rims?

Then we can't do the swap. Your tires have to be mounted on rims for this to work. A shop has to mount and balance them first, and after that we can handle the seasonal swaps from your driveway.

When to swap in Okotoks

People think winter tires are about snow. They're really about temperature. Winter rubber stays flexible well below freezing. An all-season goes stiff around 7 degrees and gives up grip on cold pavement, before there's any snow.

Around Okotoks that puts the sensible window in October. The foothills can turn early, and the first snow that sticks is usually the same week everyone remembers they own winters. Booking a couple of weeks out gets you better times.
